Every month, we highlight one of our supporters who made a real difference, or showed Mencap’s values . This month, that person is Louise, who took on a skydive in support of Mencap. Truly showing how brave she is.

Louise works at Midwich. They have a ‘Gift of AV’ charity initiative where staff are encouraged and supported to fundraise for charities close to their hearts. Louise decided to take on a challenge that pushed her far outside her comfort zone, and Midwich stood behind her every step of the way. She raised an incredible £501 for Mencap!

Louise chose to support Mencap because of her experience working with people with learning disabilities, and because of having a child with additional needs.

“After speaking to a colleague and thinking back to when I was a teenager and volunteered with those who needed additional support or had learning disabilities, I decided to do the skydive for a charity that was there to help children and young adults get a step closer to achieving their dream without judgement.” ~ Louise

Reading the stories on Mencap’s website made Louise's decision even clearer, and gave her the strength to take on this amazing feat, saying “Reading the stories on the Mencap website encouraged me to do it even when my fear kicked in and I could have backed out. Thinking about how the small amount I raised could help is what pushed me through.”

Louise embodies what it means to be a supporter: thoughtful, motivated, and willing to take bold steps, or in her case, huge leaps to help others.
