36 year old Alex is a long-term supporter of Mencap, “I've been running marathons and other running distances for a fair few years now, and ever since my first involvement with Mencap I've been running with the Mencap jersey at all my races. My first London Marathon was in 2020 during Covid, so it was the virtual one. In 2022 I ran in person and again in 2024.
I currently live in Paris but I grew up mostly in London. I have also spent a lot of time in Somerset though where my mother and brother Laurent live. I initially wanted to run for Mencap as you've done so much for my brother and our family over the years but also do so much for families like us all around the UK. I wanted to run for a cause close to my heart."
We asked Alex what he thinks of Mencap and why he continues to support us at each of his races. “I support Mencap for their outstanding work for people with a learning disability A learning disability is to do with the way someone's brain works. It makes it harder for someone to learn, understand or do things. and their families. Without them many people would not have the life they have today and more importantly the freedom to develop and become the best independent person they can be, all whilst helping and supporting their families through challenging care issues or financial Financial means anything that is to do with money. It is used to describe how people, businesses, or governments get money and how they use it ones.”
“This year, I'll be running the Boston Marathon, and I just signed up to the Chicago Marathon which will take place in October. This will mean I'll have completed three of the big six, all with 'Mencap' on my chest.” - Alex Nacrour
We wanted to know how Alex is feeling ahead of such an impressive marathon (to run in Boston you must run a qualifying time in another marathon the previous year dependent on your sex and age).
Alex told us “Although running has taken a bit of a back seat lately, as I continue exploring a new career, I know this will change as I pick up the training again. I would love to get under 3 hours again in Boston but I feel a lot of the hard work was done earlier this year, and I will be focusing on having the most fun possible.
For Chicago I'll be aiming for a Personal Best!”
We wish Alex the best of luck with his next race and look forward to seeing the photos once he has completed it.
