“Hi, I'm Abi, a Special Needs teacher from Essex (but now living my best life in Hertfordshire!). This year, I ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Mencap. I did this to raise money to support the students that I work with but also as a thank you to Mencap, who supported my family when my nephew Henry was born with Down Syndrome .”

“I've never run for a charity before, but the Mencap team has made me feel so supported throughout the whole process. I was able to smash my original fundraising goal of £350 and as of right now I have officially raised £1,237!" - Abi Humble

“I started running 3 years ago, and since then I have well and truly caught 'the running bug', swapping night's out on the town for long weekend jogs in the sun (honestly, who do I think I am?!).

My nephew Henry has been the greatest inspiration throughout my running journey, I saw how hard he worked when learning to crawl, bum shuffle and then walk, so I thought I'd make sure I put the effort in too with keeping active and challenging my body.

Henry is now 5 and walks to school every morning with my sister, every day he makes us proud, as I remember a time when we were worried he might not walk at all. If he can take those steps everyday, then I can most certainly put one foot in front of the other and push myself for a half marathon.”

"I couldn't thank the organisation [Mencap] enough and I hope the money I have raised supports some of the fantastic work Mencap do.” - Abi Humble

"I definitely couldn't have done it without the fundraising team - from Christmas messages, to pre-run good luck cards from the individuals that Mencap support (which may or may not have made me shed a tear) and finally, the love and warmth I was shown at the Cheer Station on the day."
