What is a Trustee?

All charities have to have Trustees.

A group of people sitting around a table at a meeting with a picture behind them of the law and a policeman.

The law says that the Trustees are in charge of a charity.

4 people each with a clipboard. 3 of the clipboards have a green tick on them.

What do Trustees do?

Trustees work together to make sure the charity does what it says it will do.

People doing different things: a person at a computer, 2 people in front of a flipchart, a person adding up money and a group of people sitting at a table with a plan behind them.

Trustees have different skills and experiences.

A group of people sitting around a table. Behind them is a pile of money in a circle.

Trustees make sure the charity spends it's money on the right things.

A report with 2 circles above it. In the circles are images of a group and someone adding up money. Beside the report is a list of years, some have ticks beside them.

Trustees make sure the charity writes a report each year.

The report must talk about the work the charity did and how it spent it's money.

After 4 years, you can choose if you want to be a Trustee for another 4 years.

A man holding his hand up to stop things. Behind him are calendars from 8 years.

After 8 years, you have to stop being a Trustee.
