Kilby Packaging are a manufacturer and printer of packaging and a wholesaler of a diverse range of protective and transit packaging materials. What is special about the company is that they are an independent family-run business spanning over 4 generations. Starting from humble beginnings in 1946, the company was established by John Anthony Kilby by reclaiming and recycling of corrugated boxes and ammunition cases. Until this day, Kilby Packaging still prioritises sustainability and environmentally friendly practices.
This year, both Mencap and Kilby Packaging are celebrating their 80th anniversary. This is a major milestone for both organisations Organisations are groups like companies and businesses. who have sought to serve their communities over the last 80 years.
To celebrate both milestones, 2 members of the Kilby Packaging team; Matt Williams and John Taylor, took part in a local 10km fun run in June.
On behalf of the runners, Kilby Packaging then proudly donated £240 to Mencap!
The Company had originally planned to donate to two different charities, however, they decided to donate the full amount to Mencap to commemorate the joint anniversary.
Mencap was established in 1946 by Judy Fryd, the mother of a child with a learning disability A learning disability is to do with the way someone's brain works. It makes it harder for someone to learn, understand or do things. who wrote a letter to ‘Nursery World’ magazine to talk about the unfairness of her daughter being removed from mainstream schools.
Without knowing, Judy Fryd started a movement that has supported people with learning disabilities for nearly a century.
Started as ‘The National Association of Parents of Backward Children’, Mencap has developed into a large organisation that has campaigned and supported people with learning disabilities to be able to live their lives to the fullest.
Thank you to Kilby Packaging for their support and donation to Mencap.
Their donation will contribute to Mencap’s mission to strive to create a better society for people with living with learning disabilities.
