Interested in working with people who have a learning disability?
Mencap’s employment services support people with a learning disability to develop the skills and confidence needed to get a job.
Information to help you
Whether you are a person with a learning disability looking for a job or an employer looking to work with us, we've got all the information you need below.
Having a job matters
Only 6% of adults with a learning disability known to their local authority in England are in paid work.
Being employed is about more than earning money. It’s about feeling valued, independent and fulfilled. We’re doing everything we can to make this possible for more people with a learning disability.

LD Work Week
“Since 2013, Mencap, with partner organisations, has run an annual employability event each November. The aim of the week was to raise the profile of people with a learning disability in work – their skills, their ambitions and their potential. The events, predominantly focussed around social media activity, helped us to engage with employers, and raise awareness of work for people with learning disabilities and their families/carers.
From 2021, we aim to have an even greater impact. Rather than having a specific week for people with a learning disability, we want to strive for greater inclusion and recognition of people with a learning disability by utilising existing events such as national apprenticeship week and national careers week. We believe highlighting the fantastic work that goes on all year round to help people with learning disabilities find and keep a job they love will have greater impact in raising the profile of people with a learning disability. We want to promote the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in mainstream employment opportunities and we want to showcase their success and their stories, here on our website and across social media.
