Mencap is amazed to hear that a child with a learning disability was asked to leave a cinema because she laughed too loudly during the showing of a comedy.
We have tried to contact Cineworld, who we know have special arrangements for carers to go free and autism screenings, to see what went so badly wrong.
No one should be discriminated against because they are different.
Actress Jodie Whittaker, who appears in the hit ITV drama Broadchurch and whose nephew is in Emmerdale, expressed her disappointment:
I really feel for Ema and her daughter. I'm an ambassador for Mencap because my little nephew has Down's Syndrome. I'd hate to think that he, or indeed any child, would be denied the joy of going to the cinema because of their learning disability.
There are 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK. Mencap works to support people with a learning disability and their families and carers by fighting to change laws and improve services and access to education, employment and leisure facilities. Mencap supports thousands of people with a learning disability to live their lives the way they want.
