New starters at Mencap

When you start, you’ll take part in a Welcome to Mencap workshop, where you will meet with some colleagues from different parts of the country. This workshop an overview of what we do and helps you to understand more about learning disability . You’ll feel inspired as well as informed.

You’ll also have an induction tailored to your job - this could include training in person and digitally, as well as learning on the job, shadowing or working with your manager .

Your development at Mencap

At the heart of our commitment to our people’s development and wellbeing, you’ll find My Mencap Review - our approach to performance appraisal. It’s for everyone here. And it’s seen countless people all across Mencap make serious progress in their careers.

As part of My Mencap Review, you’ll have regular conversations with your manager about how you are doing, and the support you need, as well as time to plan your development. Whenever a need or ambition is identified, your manager will be there to help.

Your induction is just the beginning of your learning with us. Every day, you’ll learn from your manager, your colleagues and, above all, people with a learning disability who you work with and, in some roles, support.

We also have a dedicated learning and development team who provide a wide range of training. This includes management development and bespoke training for the needs of teams and the people who we support.
