Support Mencap this Christmas with our party in a box: How to get involved

Throughout the festive period, we’re asking you and your colleagues to support Mencap in one of 3 ways:

Not got time this Christmas to organise a Christmas party for our services or send a box? No problem, you can still make a difference by building your own Christmas party in a box and make a donation to Mencap.

Please note that when you make a donation towards our virtual ‘Christmas party box’, you’re supporting Mencap with our vision for people with a learning disability to live their lives to the full. The items and packages shown are illustrative examples of how donations may help support people with a learning disability. Donations made through this page are unrestricted and will support Mencap's charitable work wherever the need is greatest across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Donations will not be used solely to provide the specific items or packages selected.

Are you interested in having some festive fun and volunteering to support people with a learning disability this Christmas but don't have the capacity or locality to attend in person? Then we have the perfect volunteer role for you!

For a suggested £50 donation to take part, we are looking for small groups, (of 4 volunteers or less) to help us spread Christmas cheer through planning and putting together a ‘party in a box’ for the people who live in our Mencap homes or use our services this festive period. We want you to work with them to find out about them and what they would like in their box, this might be decorations, Christmas dress up, crafts and Christmas cards - the more specific the better!

Many of the people we support absolutely love the special festive period, – so by volunteering you will be helping us to make a real difference!

Please note that in addition to the £50 donation, you will be required to cover the cost of the contents of the box and sending the box to service.

Are you interested in having some festive fun and volunteering with some local people with a learning disability this Christmas? Then the Party Planning Volunteer role is for you!

For a suggested £50 donation to take part, we are looking for small groups, (of 8 volunteers or less) to help us spread Christmas cheer through visiting some of the people who live in our Mencap homes or use our services this festive period. We want you to work with them to organise and host a Christmas activity of their choice – this could be a party, cinema trip, ice skating or craft workshop!

Please note that in addition to the £50 donation, you will also need to provide funding to help make these parties as amazing as they can be, this could be anything from donating party food to decorations.

Hear how CNX Therapeutics got on when they took part

In 2024, employees from CNX Therapeutics volunteered their time, and visited the residents at our Personal Support Service in Worcester Road and planned and hosted a Christmas party.

This involved CNX Therapeutics visiting the residents to better get to know them, and finding out from them, what would make their perfect Christmas party,

After hearing their ideas, CNX Therapeutics hosted a Christmas party where they bought festive food and craft activities for the residents to enjoy.

All the residents were very excited to have volunteers, when Medhi (volunteer at CNX Therapeutics) came to meet with everyone, they were all very engaged with the meeting & everyone felt included & their choices & wishes were taken into consideration.

Fun was had by all

After the party, Katrina, one of the residents at the home, said: "I had so much fun! It was really special because there were so many people here, and we got to play games and eat great Christmas food. My favourite activity was the gingerbread decorating! It was amazing to have so many people come and the food was fantastic – it’s been the best day."

It was fantastic to take part in the Christmas event at Cowley and see CNX support such a special celebration. These events aren’t just fun - they help residents connect, feel included and create lasting memories. We look forward to continuing our support of Mencap and the wonderful work Mary and the team are doing here in Cowley.
