What is volunteering?

Volunteering is when you do something for free to help a person or an organisation.

A group of people.

Lots of charities and organisations have volunteers.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers do lots of different things!

Three people planting things in a raised bed, a dog with a toy and 2 people sitting chatting to each other.

As a volunteer, you might:

  • look after animals
  • do some gardening
  • sit and chat with a person
  • help to run a club or group.

Why do people volunteer?

You might volunteer so that you can:

  • learn new skills
  • share skills you have
  • find out if you like doing something
  • apply for paid work
  • spend time doing something you enjoy.
