Mission to Lars Easy Read

Everyone deserves an adventure in their life.

The film 'Mission to Lars' is about an adventure taken by Tom Spicer who has a learning disability called Fragile X syndrome .

He also has autism .

Tom lives in  supported living accommodation, in a quite village in Devon.

For 20 years Tom has dreamed of meeting Lars Ulrich, a drummer in the American heavy metal group, Metallica.

Tom has a sister called Kate who works at the Sunday Times.

One day Kate came to visit Tom.

Toms brother Will makes films.

Kate says that she, and her brother Will, want to help Tom meet Lars.

The plan is to try to get Tom to meet Lars backstage at one of the Metallica concerts, which are about to take place in America.

It will also be a holiday for the three of them and they start to get ready for the trip.

On the day they need to go to the airport Tom starts to feel nervous and runs away.

Kate and Will find Tom and they go to America.

Tom, Will and Kate use a camper van to travel from the airport through the West coast of America to see Metallica.

Kate and Will find they are not able to give any of the things their parents told them Tom would need during their trip.

Tom is not enjoying the trip.

When they get to Las Vegas, where Metallica are playing, Tom chooses to stay in the camper van.

Kate and Will learn to include Tom in more things and meet his needs.

This makes the trip better for Tom.

Metallica send Tom, Kate and Will backstage passes and it looks like Tom is going to meet Lars.

Tom is now not sure he wants to meet Metallica.

In a town called Sacramento they meet the worlds leading expert in Toms condition: Fragile X syndrome.

The expert explains more about Fragile X to Toms brother and sister.

Later, in a town called Anaheim, in California, it is time for the Metallica concert.

Tom now feels ready to meet Lars.

Tom meets Lars before the show and has a drum lesson.

At the end of the film, we see Tom backstage.

Tom then walks onto the stage with his hero Lars from Metallica.
