What is a Freedom Pass?

A Freedom Pass is a card that lets you travel around London on public transport for free, or at a cheaper price. 

A train, a bus and a sign for an underground station.

Public transport in London includes:

  • trams
  • buses
  • the tube
  • the overground
  • DLR (Docklands Light Railway)
  • trains (National Rail).

It also includes some river transport and London's bike hire.

A Freedom Pass lets you travel for free on local buses in England.

Who can apply for a Freedom Pass?

There are 2 types of Freedom Pass:

  • Older Person's Freedom Pass
  • Disabled Person's Freedom Pass.

How do I apply for a Freedom Pass?

Contact your local authority or look on your local authority's website to find out how to apply for a Disabled Person's Freedom Pass.

If you do not know your local authority's website or contact details, go to the Apply for a Disabled Person's Freedom Pass page on the London Councils' website and choose your local authority.

When you apply for your Disabled Person's Freedom Pass, you will need:

  • proof of your disability
  • proof of your address
  • a colour passport photo of yourself.
