Why is the survey important?
This will be a chance for you to tell us about your life and experiences. We will be asking questions about public transport, and other topics such as wellbeing, community and work.
The results will help Mencap to provide better support for people with a learning disability. We will use your answers to help make life better for people with a learning disability.
How did Mencap design the survey?
We asked a group of people with a learning disability to help us design the survey. We talked to them about what is important to ask people with a learning disability.

They helped us to choose which questions to have in the survey. They helped to make the survey more easy to understand. They helped us to choose which pictures to use.

We also have a person with a learning disability working in the Research team on the survey. Other team members from Mencap helped us to design the survey too.

We also got ideas from other surveys. We found that lots of surveys for the general public are not accessible for people with a learning disability. So we did not include many questions from general public surveys in the Big Public Transport Survey.
We then tested the survey with other people with a learning disability. This was to check if people understood the questions. We made some changes to the survey based on what they told us.

How will Mencap share what they find out?
We will write a report about what we find out. We will share the report with other
organisations
Organisations are groups like companies and businesses.
. We will also share the report on our
website
A website is a page you can go to on the internet like Google or YouTube.
and social media (things like Instagram and Facebook).

Will you use my name in the report?
No, we will not use your name in the report. Your answers to this survey are
confidential
Confidential means something is private.
. This means that we will not use your name when we share what we have found out.

Do I have to take part in the survey?
No. You don’t have to take part in the survey if you don’t want to. If you change your mind during the survey, you can stop.

You will tell us if you want to take part.
You can then answer the survey questions.

Or if you don’t want to take part then nothing more will happen.

How will you find people to take part in the survey?
We will contact lots of different people. For example, we will contact organisations, groups and services who work with people with a learning disability in the UK.
We will also share the survey with local councils.
We will try to find ways to contact people who don’t use services too.

I have another question. Who should I ask?
Please contact the researchers if you have any questions about this survey.
You can email research@mencap.org.uk or phone 0207 454 0454.
