What stood out to us when speaking with Fran was not only her sheer enthusiasm and dedication to take part in the challenge and fundraise for Mencap, but the fact she met her Fiancé, Dom at a Mencap event. We thought this would be a beautiful way to show the passion that Mencap can bring to the lives of people who use our services.

Fran regularly attends Mencap events in Llandudno, Wales (Cymru), most notably the ‘Wednesday Club’ where she plays pool, darts, enjoys arts and crafts, and the occasional disco. This club is important to Fran as it's an inclusive environment for people with a learning disability where she can socialise and meet people.

Fran and Dom's story

In January 2026, Fran attended a Wednesday club as she usually does and on that magical Wednesday she met her fiancé, Dom. They started taking and Dom asked her out on a date; they met up for drinks and instantly hit it off. It must have been love at first sight as by August 2026, they were engaged!

From our conversations with Fran, you can tell that the two are match made in heaven. Fran described Dom as very caring, and attentive to her needs, and the fact they both have a learning disability adds an extra layer of connection and understanding. They are both adventurous spirits and spent the summer swimming in rivers and climbed halfway up Mount Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa). Fran brought Dom along while she completed the 80km for 80 years challenge and she fundraised an amazing £219 for Mencap, completing smashing the £80 fundraising target.

Fran and Dom’s story shows us the importance of inclusive spaces in bringing joy and love into the lives of people with a learning disability. We wish Fran and Dom all the best in their future nuptials.

Well done and thank you to Fran for fundraising and supporting Mencap, along with anyone else who took part in the challenge and fundraised for Mencap.
