We are proud and excited to announce a new partnership with Admiral that will bring the first dedicated, Mencap Supported Employment service to Wales in more than a decade.

Supported employment for people with a learning disability in Wales

With Admiral’s generous investment, we are launching Employ Me Cymru, a transformative programme designed to help adults with a learning disability in rural-mid Wales gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to move into paid work.

Right now in Wales, too many people with a learning disability are going without the employment support they need and deserve. The gap in provision has left people facing unnecessary barriers to work, independence and connection with their communities. That’s why this partnership with Admiral is so important. Without their funding, the project wouldn’t be possible. Together with Admiral, we will open up more pathways into meaningful, paid employment, helping people with a learning disability build confidence, independence and the chance to live their lives to the full. This is exactly the kind of partnership that can create lasting change.

Jon Sparkes OBE, Mencap Chief Executive

Across Wales, around 67,000 people have a learning disability, yet only a small number are currently in employment. We need to change this. Especially in places like rural mid-Wales, where challenges such as limited transport, fewer training opportunities, and social isolation can make securing work even more difficult.

Through Employ Me Cymru, we will offer tailored one to one job coaching, skills workshops, travel training, and practical support so that people can prepare for, enter, and thrive in meaningful work. We will also partner directly with local employers, including Admiral’s own teams, to build confidence around inclusive recruitment and open new pathways into employment.

This partnership creates exciting opportunities for Admiral colleagues to get involved . They will be able to volunteer , mentor participants, take part in awareness raising activities, and help champion inclusive hiring across Wales. This collaboration reflects Admiral’s commitment to reducing employment barriers and improving equality of opportunity in the communities it serves, and we are delighted to be working together to create real change.

Progress means creating opportunity for everyone. Through this partnership with Mencap, we’re helping to create meaningful, paid employment that supports independence and wellbeing. Together, we’re working to reduce inequality and build stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Wales’ only FTSE 100 employer

Over time, we plan to grow the support we deliver across Wales, helping even more people grow their independence, confidence, and future opportunities. This partnership marks an important step forward for inclusive employment in Wales. By bringing together the strengths of Wales’ only FTSE 100 employer and a national charity, we are demonstrating what is possible when we share a common purpose: to create a fairer, more accessible future for people with a learning disability.
