We’re really pleased to be keeping these high street shops going after the Queen Elizabeth Foundation, a small charity doing important work, sadly closed this month.

By taking on these new shops, we’ve been able to keep these much loved community spaces going and have been able to offer continued employment to staff who previously worked there.

📍 You’ll soon find us in:

Chessington

Stoneleigh

Shepperton

Claygate

These shops won’t be opening straight away, but we’re working behind the scenes to make these spaces special. Keep an eye out for updates.

A Fresh Start in Local Communities

Each of these shops is more than just a place to pick up a bargain. They’ll be spaces where communities can come together, where pre loved items find new homes, and where every purchase helps us raise funds to support people with a learning disability .

Walking into a Mencap shop, you’ll find shelves stacked with clothing, books, homeware, and those one of a kind treasures you didn’t know you needed. But behind every item is something bigger, the chance to make a difference.

These shops will also offer volunteering roles and job opportunities for people with and without a learning disability. They help people build confidence, learn new skills and feel connected. They also help raise awareness and make sure more people understand what life is like for people with a learning disability.

And the money raised from every purchase in our shops helps us do even more across the country, supporting people to make friends, take part in their community, get the access to the services they’re entitled to, and do the things that matter to them. We want people to feel less lonely by feeling a part of something meaningful.

Mencap Executive Director of Inclusive Communities and Partnerships, Alison Pike shared, “We’re excited to be opening 4 new Mencap shops, and to welcome colleagues who previously worked with the Queen Elizabeth Foundation. This is a great opportunity to raise more money to support people with a learning disability to live the life they choose. It also brings us a step closer to our 2030 goal of doubling the number of Mencap shops, and we hope to grow even more in 2026.”

What's next?

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more stories from our retail team and celebrating the amazing volunteers and donors who’ve made this possible. Keep an eye out for updates.
