We are Mencap
We are Mencap
We want to make the UK better for everyone with a learning disability.
We help people with a learning disability, their families and their carers.
We work hard to make the UK a place where people are kinder
and people with a learning disability are treated fairly and are included.
People with a learning disability help to lead Mencap.
The Voices Council is a group of people with a learning disability who share their views and experiences to help Mencap’s Board of Trustees make decisions.
We have to have at least 1 trustee with a learning disability.
Trustees are the people who make sure that the charity does what it says it will.
The law Laws are the rules that everyone in the country has to follow. If you don't follow the rules you can get in trouble with the police. says trustees are responsible for the charity.
We listen to the ideas and stories of people with a learning disability to help us decide what to do and to make our plans for the future.
Our history
Judy Fryd had a daughter with a learning disability.
In 1946 she started The National Association of Parents of Backward Children.
This became Mencap.
