The Motability research project
The Motability research project

Information for people who want to know more about the Motability project.
Mencap is starting a new piece of research.
The research is about people with a learning disability and using public transport.

Mencap has received a grant from the Motability Foundation on a research project about public transport.
The Motability Foundation fund, support, research and
innovate
To innovate means to come up with new ideas or ways of doing things.
so that all disabled people can make the journeys they choose.

We want to find out three things:

1. What problems do people with a learning disability face when using public transport?

2. How do these problems impact people’s wellbeing, social life and ability to work?

3. What changes can be made to make public transport better?

To find out how people with a learning disability feel, we will:

1. Listen to their stories about using public transport.

2. Ask people to film themselves using public transport.

3. Run a
survey
A survey is when someone asks you to answer some questions.
about public transport.

4. Run
focus groups
Where a group of people meet to talk about a topic, and a researcher asks them some questions.
about public transport.

We would like you to fill in the Big Public Transport Survey.
You can fill in the survey from Monday 7 October to Friday 6 December 2024.
The survey has questions about you, public transport, wellbeing and work.
It should take you 10-15 minutes to fill in the survey.
