Get Britain Working

In Get Britain Working, the Government has 5 big things they want to do to help more people get a job that is right for them.

Big thing 1: support people with their health

The Government want to support people to be healthier so they do not get ill.

More people will be able to get help for a health condition or their mental health.

Big thing 2: support local authorities to work in better ways

The Government will give money to some local authorities for them to work with:

  • the NHS
  • job and career services
  • charities
  • local employers.

They will look at work, health and the skills that people need.

In these areas, more people who are out of work will get support.

These areas will be called trailblazers.

The government will give money to some places in England and Wales.

The places who get the money will follow a new plan called Connect to Work.

  • disabled people
  • people with health conditions
  • people who have a lot of things that stop them getting a job.

Big thing 3: look at how employers support disabled people and people with health conditions

The Government will look at how employers:

  • support disabled people and people with a health condition to get a job and stay in work

Big thing 4: support young people

The Government have promised to support all young people aged 18 to 21 to get training or find a job.

The promise is called the Youth Guarantee.

The Government will make sure that all 16 and 17 year olds have a place at college or in training.

The Government might need to change the benefits rules for young people when they are looking for work.

Big thing 5: set up a new jobs and careers service

A career is the type of work someone does for a long time.

The new service will help people to get a job that is right for them.
