Autumn statement 2022 thoughts

What Mencap think about the Autumn statement 2022

A leaflet about benefits

Increase in benefits

The UK government have said they will increase disability and working age benefits.

Increase means that it will go up and people will get more benefits.

The increase will be 10.1%

A tick

Mencap think that this shows that the UK Government is keeping its promise to support people with a disability.

Benefits will go up in April 2023.

A graph showing prices going up

Mencap think they should go up now so that people with a learning disability can afford the rise in energy bills and food prices this winter.

Minimum Income Guarantee

Minimum Income Guarantee is the amount of money people are left with once they have paid for care and support.

A selection of bills

The money left over is for people to pay for essential daily living expenses , for example food and bills.

Bank notes and coins

Mencap want the UK government to put up the social care Minimum Income Guarantee.

A cross

If this does not happen people with a learning disability will not have any extra money when benefits go up as it will be taken away as payment for social care.

Bank notes stacked on top of one another

Funding

The UK government have said they will give more money towards adult social care.

Mencap think more money should be given to support working age disabled people better.

Carers

There are a lot of paid careers needed across the UK.

Mencap think the UK government needs to do more to encourage people to become carers or support workers .
