Today, the government has published the first ever Women's Health Strategy for England to tackle the gender health gap.
Ciara Lawrence, who has a learning disability A learning disability is to do with the way someone's brain works. It makes it harder for someone to learn, understand or do things. and is Big Plan Engagement Lead at learning disability charity Mencap, said: “It is great to see a focus on women’s health with the launch of the government's first Women’s Health Strategy, but it is disappointing to see very little mentioned about women with a learning disability.
“People with a learning disability have always faced serious health inequalities and as last week's Learning Disability Mortality Review (LeDeR) report shows, women with a learning disability are dying 26 years earlier than the general population. This shows that much more must be done to prioritise women with a learning disability and our health.”
