Mencap Manifesto: Wales

A judge with a hammer outside the court building next to devices with social media apps on them

We want all political parties to support Ofcom to bring in the new laws on social media  and support a campaign to raise awareness.

Ofcom is an organisation which makes sure that the media and social media follows the law.

Two men holding up energy bills. One is a gas bill the other is an electricity bill

We want all political parties to start a Energy Social Tariff for disabled people and their carers.

An Energy Social Tariff would set a lower price for electricity, gas and water for disabled people and carers.

A calendar with money and a red cross over it

We want all political parties to stop people with a learning disability being at risk of having benefit sanctions.

Benefit sanctions are when you have your benefits stopped.

A calculator next to a pile of money

We want all the political parties to promise to look at  how much money people get paid in their benefits and work out if this is enough for people to live on.

A pair of different arms shaking hands underneath a bag of money

We want all political parties to continue to give more money to Access to Work.

A grocer in a supermarket is shaking the hand of a man in a suit

We want Access to Work to give people with a learning disability job coaching before and after an internship.

An internship is when you get work experience for a set amount of time.

There is a pot of money called the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

This is money is given to different projects such as employment support for disabled people.

A calendar date of 2025 is behind a hand which is giving another hand some money - all have a red cross over them

But this money is going to end in 2025.

We want all political parties to promise to keep giving money to a new fund for employment projects for disabled people.

A UN Disability Rights poster with three people with disabilities pointing to it

All political parties should promise to follow the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with a Disability.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with a Disability is a document that says how disabled people should be treated.

We want all political parties to make sure people with a learning disability have the same access to money services with  reasonable adjustments for them.

Mencap wants the political parties to promise to make the laws on hate crime better.

a policeman is standing next to a law book

Some ideas were made by the Law Commission on how to improve the law.

We want these ideas to become the new law on hate crime.

This new law would make sure that disabled people are treated the same as other groups that face hate crimes.
