2022-2023 Annual report area of work 1

Making sure that our support is right for people and makes their lives better

A woman holds a shopping basket whist another woman who has a bandaged arm, puts a food can into it.

Some of our main work:

We gave support to many people with a learning disability in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We worked hard to do that during Covid-19 and after it.

A young woman sitting on the floor being comforted by a friend who is introducing her to three new friends.

Our support services help people to do important things like:

  • Go shopping and cook
  • Get a job
  • Meet friends and do new things
Two men are sitting at a table talking. One has a cup of coffee and the other man has a note pad and pen.

It has been hard to get and keep enough staff for our support services.

This is a problem for many organisations at the moment.

A woman in a wheelchair is being shown a tablet by a support worker who is kneeling down next to her

We are working hard to keep giving people really good support.

For example, we are trying hard to get more support workers.

But we need the government to change things as well.

For example, we want to make sure that support workers are paid more.

A man is asking questions to someone which start with Why?, What?, When? and How?

We are asking more people every year about different parts of their lives.

Like health and relationships .

This is so we can support people to make the changes they want.

Supporting people to get work

We have supported many people with a learning disability to get work or learn important skills for work.

More people than before got a job after our support.

A man with downs syndrome and a woman are pointing to a flip chart which has a picture of people with learning disabilities doing different jobs

We gave training to some companies to help them know more about people with a learning disability.

Supporting children and families

We have some projects to give children and young people with a learning disability and their families the support they need.

That includes supporting children and young people to learn new things and meet new people.

That will help children and young people to get a good start in life and do well later on.
