Corporate volunteering with Mencap

Volunteering with Mencap is a fantastic way to work with us. It's also a great way to give back to your local community.

Seeing the impact of our programmes first-hand helps spread awareness and understanding of learning disabilities.

Skills based volunteering

Working with your skills, expertise and knowledge you could take part in one of our Lifestyles and Work workshops or create your own way to support people with a learning disability . For example:

  • Money management workshop
  • Employment workshops
  • Management coaching sessions
  • Career discussion and talking about your work experience
  • Administrative support in our offices
  • Research volunteering
  • IT support volunteering
  • Group session support

Our Lifestyles and Work team who run our 'MeTime' services, sometimes need volunteers to support group sessions such as art, bowling and social events.

    One off event volunteering

This could involve supporting our fundraisers at an external event, or helping a local service run anything from a garden spring clean to a Christmas disco.

    Cheer points

Cheer point volunteering could see you and your team cheering on our runners at local marathons who raise money to help us support thousands of people in the UK with a learning disability.

    Befriending

This is a great opportunity if you want to volunteer regularly and have a passion for doing pretty much anything from golf to music, the theatre or baking.

People who choose our befriending volunteering service support people with a learning disability who live in our services to do the things they enjoy and end the chronic isolation so many of them face.

    Mencap Visiting Service

This is an individual volunteering role to visit someone with a learning disability six times a year to offer companionship and share their interests.

This generally requires a longer term commitment and we try to pair individuals with beneficiaries to develop and maintain a longer term friendship.

    Campaigning

For anyone wanting a different type of volunteering opportunity, why not join our online campaigns team?

This could involve writing to your local council MP to champion specific bills and rights which will make a huge difference to our work for people with a learning disability in your community.

    Bucket collections and community fundraising

Volunteers cheering people on in a pretty country village green

Volunteer to hold a bucket collection in your local town, supermarket or train station or fundraise in your community by hosing a cake auction, a charity coffee morning or another fundraising idea.

All you need is a license from your local council to fundraise in this way so we'll put you in touch with a local fundraising officer who can help you.
