Today, the government has published the first ever Women's Health Strategy for England to tackle the gender health gap.

Ciara Lawrence, who has a learning disability and is Big Plan Engagement Lead at learning disability charity Mencap, said: “It is great to see a focus on women’s health with the launch of the government's first Women’s Health Strategy, but it is disappointing to see very little mentioned about women with a learning disability.

“People with a learning disability have always faced serious health inequalities and as last week's Learning Disability Mortality Review (LeDeR) report shows, women with a learning disability are dying 26 years earlier than the general population. This shows that much more must be done to prioritise women with a learning disability and our health.”
