Getting started
At Mencap we believe every person with a learning disability should have the chance to get a job. Our jobs and training services enable people with a learning disability to develop the skills they need for the workplace. We support people to find, and stay, in employment, and to make the most of their experiences as employees.
Support for businesses
Mencap also works with businesses to support the employment of people with a learning disability, to make sure they have the right support to enjoy the benefits of having a truly diverse workforce.

Employ Me
Employ Me is Mencap's specialist programme that supports people with a learning disability to gain paid employment. Mencap also supports companies and organisations to enable them to gain the benefits of a truly diverse workforce.

As part of the Employ Me programme we will work with you to develop and identify the key skills and qualities that could help you gain employment.
Other work programmes
In June 2010 the government announced a new flagship programme reforming the way welfare to work services would be delivered. The Work Programme replaces many of the existing programmes delivered by providers, helping people who have been unemployed long-term back to work.
How to be referred
Find out how you can be referred to Mencap's employment service, which could be through the Job Centre or Connexions. You can also pay for Mencap's employment services through a direct payment or individual budget.

Terry had been unemployed for almost a year before his disability employment advisor referred him to Mencap via the Work Choice programme.
