Find out how you can be referred to Mencap's employment service, which could be through the Job Centre or Connexions. You can also pay for Mencap's employment services through a direct payment or individual budget.
Jobcentre Plus offers support through its Disability Employment Advisers (DEAs) who can be contacted via the local Jobcentre offices. For anyone with a disability seeking employment, the DEA should be the first contact, who may then refer you on to specialist organisations, such as Mencap. For local office details look at the Jobcentre Plus website.
Connexions can provide advice about career options and support with making career choices for people aged between 13 and 19. This help should start during the last couple of years at school or college. For those with additional needs this can continue until the person is aged 25. Connexions advisers often work in schools and colleges but can also be contacted through the local offices or via their website. Connexions advisers are not available in Northern Ireland.
You can pay for any Mencap services, including employment services through a direct payment or individual budget. We will make sure you know how much you have to pay for your support. If you do not get a direct payment or individual budget you can use your own money to pay for support. Mencap will send you a bill every four weeks. If your needs change, we will work with you to alter your support plan. We will only ever send you a bill for the support you use.
