In March, Mencap in Northern Ireland hosted a two-day collaborative conference called Working Together For Change.
Mencap Northern Ireland's conference, Working Together for Change, was held on 23 and 24 March 2012 in Belfast. 300 people attended from organisations, groups and clubs, self-advocates, people with a learning disability, families and professionals - everyone with an interest in improving the lives of children, young people and adults with a learning disability.
The conference was opened by Edwin Poots, Minister for Health, Social Service and Public Safety. During the conference there were a variety of ways to take part and share ideas including the opportunity to express views on the themes of the day in video interviews and on Facebook and Twitter.
The attendees discussed Mencap's priorities and a number of consultations about key policy areas including the Northern Ireland Learning Disability Service Framework, Improving Outcomes for Children and Young People, the Inclusion International review of Living in the Community (Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People).
