The Northern Ireland Committee acts as the link between our local network and Mencap trustees.
Members of the Northern Ireland Committee contribute to debates within Mencap about policy, and guide our activity and future direction in Northern Ireland.
People with a learning disability are at the heart of decisions made by Mencap about its priorities and plans. Each district in Northern Ireland nominates and elects two members to be a part of the Northern Ireland Committee. One of these members must have a learning disability; therefore there is a minimum of four people with a learning disability on the committee at any one time.
The committee is made up of:
- one trustee chosen by the board of trustees
- up to two representatives from each district, one with and one without a learning disability,
- up to four other co-opted individuals
