Usually the first contact an individual will have with their health and social care trust is when they are assessed for community care services.
Direct payments are cash payments given to individuals to buy social care services with. They replace traditional services commissioned by the health and social care trust.
A consultation is when a public body asks for people’s views on proposals to change their services or policy in some way.

Health and social care trusts do not have to charge for community care services and traditionally most have not done so, but the last couple of years have seen more trusts introducing charges for services or increasing existing charges as they are receiving less money from central government.
