Hi i am new to this forum and my son has been diagnosed as having a global development delay.I am really confused as i knew there was a problem from early on in his life.He is currently 21 months he cannot communicate, walk ,wave feed himself, use a bottle /beaker.He tries to hurt himself and doesnt seem to understand anything. He cannot follow any instructions and has a dangerous obssession with doors/cupboard doors oven doors and enjoys spitting and banging his head on floors surfaces his cot and other people. He also like to rub his face along kitchen units ,my leather chair and the back of his hand.I do not know what services and support are available to him we have been referred by the pediatrition from his multidisaplinary assessment to speech therapy audiology portage and someone to help with his eating and sleep ( i havent slept a full night since he was born he wakes up 3-4 times a night every night) Any information or website help or support would be gratefully appreciated thanks
Hi greeneye and welcome to our families forums!
Thanks so much for sharing the details of your son's diagnosis. We've heard from many parents what a difficult time this can be, and how hard it can be to get to grips with a term like 'global development delay' and what it will mean for the future.
We have a story from a father in our 'ages and stages' section on this site which details his family's experience of a GDD diagnosis - and lots of other parents have shared their own situations in the comment boxes at the end. Do take a look at http://www.mencap.org.uk/page.asp?id=202

I hope this is a start. Do keep us posted on what happens next with your son's support, and good luck.
