John Kent was named as the winner of York Idol 2009
after he wowed judges and more than 100 of the region's professionals with his rendition of the 'classic‘ Jumping Jack Flash by The Rolling Stones.
The two runners up were Stuart Duncan of Purenet and Dawn Worcester-Jameson of Your Local Link.
Seven acts competed and were judged by a panel that included including Darren Harper from Yorkshire Radio, and Amy Burrow of 2009 X Factor group Project A. The event was kindly compered by Simon Robertson of One Voice Productions. There was also a fantastic special performance by Project A, with some great harmonies and dance moves.
I have never sung live before, but I enjoyed every minute of the process from the initial excitement of the rehearsal, the build up, the pre-show nerves and the elation of the actual performance.
Kelly Railton, regional fundraising manager for Mencap said: "York Idol has revealed the hidden musical talent in York's business community and a fantastic new entertainer in the shape of John Kent. The event has been great fun and we are delighted to have raised such a large sum for Mencap. We hope everyone will support the event again next year."
