On Thursday 5 April Mencap’s Marathon des Sables team headed off to Morocco, ready to put their months of hard work training into practice.
The 27th annual Marathon des Sables saw 854 competitors set off into the Sahara desert ready to tackle 246.5km over mixed terrain of sand dunes, valleys and rocky plateaux.
Mencap's team of 17 runners all completed the course in brilliant times, the fastest among them coming 53rd. The team has already raised over £100,000 - helping Mencap continue to support thousands of people with a learning disability in the UK.
Thank you to the whole team for your support:
Alan Jacobs, Alex Laybourne, Andrew Hall, Edward Roberts, Edward Withey, Gordon Murphy, Jarrod Rees, John Percy, Mahmood Mortazavi, Martin Lees, Matthew Knight, Paul Janes, Phil White, Raza Barktali, Saadi Hussain, Sally Vincent and Thomas Martin.
