The 25th annual race got underway on Sunday 4 April with a field of 1,013 competitors taking on the heat and sand of the Sahara.
Mencap's 16 runners were all in good spirits as they set off, displaying a healthy mix of nerves and excitement! The six days of racing saw the team battle up sand dunes, across rocky terrain and through clouds of dust in 40 degree heat.
This year's race was the longest ever at a total of 250km, with the longest day covering a massive 82.2km. Mencap's runners did brilliantly; one competitor was unfortunately forced to withdraw, but the remainder all finished the race - the culmination of months of hard work training and fundraising.
Between them the team have already raised over £103,000 - helping Mencap continue to support thousands of people with a learning disability in the UK.
Thank you to the whole team for your support:
Tim Blackburn, Keith Burnet, Tim Davie, Claire Donaldson, Carl Gair, Andrew Gregson, Jonathan Hall, Joe Mountain, Michael Nielsen, Gillian Orme, Harvey Pynn, Tim Stone, David Ward, Pete Woolacott, Tim Brown and David Methley.
