65% of people in the UK with a learning disability want to work, but only 6% of those known to local authorities of working age are in paid employment

We believe that with the right support, people with a learning disability can get a job and enjoy an independent, fulfilling life.

Our Employment programme helps people with a learning disability to find meaningful paid work by improving understanding about learning disability among work providers.

How we're breaking down barriers to employment

Employers often fail to see beyond a person’s learning disability due to a lack of understanding, or look for skills or experience that many individuals don’t have. By offering online only applications, formal interviews, and a lack of adjustments, employers can create barriers without realising it.

People like Patrick have been helped by Mencap to find meaningful paid work that increased confidence and made him more independent.
