The focus for this year’s Learning Disability Week (19-25 June) is employment.
We will be raising awareness of the benefits of employing people with a learning disability to help tackle the appallingly low levels of employment there currently are.
Learning disability and employment
The current situation
- Around 8 in 10 working age people with a learning disability have a mild or moderate learning disability, but fewer than 2 in 10 are in employment. We want this to change.
What we’ll be doing
- During the week we will be sharing new research that highlights the benefits of employing people with a learning disability
- We’ll be sharing stories from employers about their experiences of employing people with a learning disability
- We’ll also be sharing stories from employees with a learning disability about their experiences in paid work
