Virgin Money isn’t like other banks. It is committed to making banking better and helping people and organisations transform lives.

As the Official Sponsor of  the Virgin Money London Marathon it helps raise millions of pounds for charities, through its non for profit fundraising platform, Virgin Money Giving. Each year Virgin Money colleagues choose their official Charity of the Year as part of the partnership. In 2018, Mencap was selected to be the charity partner for the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon.

Harry Roche is part of the Virgin Money London Marathon delivery team at Mencap. A keen runner, he also has a learning disability, and is passionate about the impact of the partnership. He says:

We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as Virgin Money’s Charity of the Year. Virgin Money shares our vision that every single person with a learning disability deserves to be included and feel a part of society. My hope for the partnership is to see attitudes change – we want the public to think about learning disability more positively. I want to show people that I can achieve anything! The long-term impact of this could be a game changer, shaping a society where people with a learning disability can live the life they deserve.

Mencap All Move Project

All Move

As a result of the partnership with Virgin Money, Mencap will be launching "All Move", a new inclusive school programme bringing together children with and without a learning disability to tackle stigma and bullying through sport.

Mary O’Hagan, deputy director of fundraising at Mencap says:

We are thrilled to have been chosen by Virgin Money as their 2020 Charity of the Year. This partnership is an amazing opportunity for us to put learning disability on the world stage. Inclusion remains one of the biggest battles for people with a learning disability and this partnership gives us a fantastic opportunity to change this. Our partnership will help us to make to make a real difference to the lives of people with a learning disability with the launch of All Move – our vision for a socially inclusive world with young people with and without a learning disability taking part in sport in schools together. This is our chance to change attitudes for generations to come.

Helen Drury, Senior Manager – Community, CSR and Partnerships, says:

We are delighted to be partnered with the UK’s leading learning disability charity. At Virgin Money we are committed to inclusivity in every aspect of our business and, in partnership with Mencap, we hope to tackle the stigma and discrimination that people with a learning disability face in their everyday lives. We know the hard work and fundraising of our colleagues across the organisation can make a real difference and we are therefore proud supporters of All Move and look forward to seeing the programme come to life.
