People with a learning disability should have opportunities, choice and control over what they spend their time doing, but many people are still losing out.
Cuts in further and adult education are reducing the numbers of people with a learning disability in education and training, and putting further pressure on day services. Day centres are being closed and are not being replaced with good community services.
Mencap believes that:
- all people with a learning disability should have access to meaningful daytime activities
- educational, leisure, sports and all other local facilities must become accessible for people with a learning disability
- the government must provide more funding for services to meet the needs of people with a learning disability.
