Nicky wanted to get a job as a postman. He wanted to have a career and earn some money. With the help of his supporter, he applied for a job with Royal Mail and was offered an interview for a job as a postman.
Royal Mail made some changes to the usual recruitment process so that Nicky would have a fair chance to show them what he could do. Instead of the usual maths test and formal interview, Royal Mail gave Nicky a practical test in the mail room. Then they gave him an informal interview and soon afterwards Nicky was offered the job.
I felt good - I'd been unemployed for two years and had made a number of applications to other jobs, but none of them were going my way. I do see a long-term future for me here, maybe 15 years or more. I like getting out and about in the sunshine, and getting exercise.
Nicky got his job through Mencap's WorkRight programme.
