Becky has been working for a large, well-known department store for nearly five years. Becky works for three hours every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. She works in the restaurant clearing and cleaning tables and really enjoys it.
Becky said "I like the job because it means I am doing something I enjoy. It gives me confidence and I have made lots of new friends".
Becky does not get paid for the work that she does. She began on a work experience placement at the store but this did not progress to paid employment. She has been working on an unpaid basis ever since.
Becky should be paid a regular wage each week. She is providing a service to the organisation and should be paid for this service, just like her colleagues.
