Campaigning locally is a powerful way to stand up for the issues you care about, whether that’s cuts to services, better health care for people with a learning disability, or an issue specific to you.
Members of our team cover the North, Central, South and London regions. We can give advice and training, link you up with others, and help get your campaign off the ground. Get in touch!
North - Stephen John (Senior Campaigns Officer)
I am very passionate about working with and for people with a disability and campaigning on important issues. I started at Mencap in 2009 and I cover the North of England (despite the Welsh accent). I also manage the regional Campaigns Officers. I love exploring the country (especially the North) and know where all the best chip shops are. Rugby, fishing and family (not necessarily in that order) are the big things in my life.

Central - Bindya Mistry (Campaigns Officer)
I joined the Campaigns Team in October 2016 but I have been working for Mencap since 2005 in advocacy. I have a passion for making positive changes for people with learning disabilities by encouraging individuals to speak up for themselves. Outside of work I like to spend time with my family and friends, bake, go hiking and travel.
Counties covered in the Central region
- West Midlands
South - Michael Le Surf (Campaigns Officer)
I have over 20 years experience in learning disability services with a background in advocacy and support. I have been working at Mencap since 2010 as the Changing Places Development Officer supporting the campaign for Changing Places toilets across the UK. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the cinema and following the mighty Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

National and London - Eve Jackson (National Campaigns Officer)
I am National Campaigns Officer and I joined Mencap in 2014. I’ve worked in various not-for-profits since graduating with an English degree, for example coordinating volunteers for an NGO in the Middle East, running events for a free expression campaigning organisation, as a volunteer for a children’s camping charity and for an organisation which hosts poetry events for new audiences.
