The DCP is a major coalition of more than 100 organisations, supported by a network of thousands of parent carers and allies, who campaign for improved health and social care for disabled children, young people and their families in England.
Mencap is one of the 12 organisations that form the DCP Steering Group.
The DCP believes that disabled children, young people and their families have a right to access the services and support they need to live a good quality of life and have the same opportunities as any other family.
But in England today, this simply isn’t happening.
There is a £2.1 billion funding gap in disabled children’s services, which is just set to get bigger. This means countless families with disabled children are not getting the therapies, breaks from caring, equipment and other services they have a right to.
What we do
The DCP exists to:
- Provide a platform for the voices of disabled children and family members.
- Challenge the inequalities and barriers in the provision of disabled children’s health and social care services.
- Improve the quality of services available.
- Make sure families can access those services.
- Ensure professionals communicate with each other and work together.
