My Name is Mia and I have a learning disability. I love animals, looking after my dog and being creative!

I draw Manga Cartoons, take part in Marital Arts, enjoy music and perform with a group at Sadlers Wells, I recently played Jane Banks from Mary Poppins!

What I struggle with most is my confidence, people often assume I am really brave because I have performed on stage but I am actually really shy. However, when I had the opportunity to take part in this community impact project with Mencap I knew I couldn’t say no. They helped me to overcome my shyness and be filmed for the video.

It was fantastic to be completely involved rather than just being an observer and being a creative person I loved helping to design the invitation for the launch event!

It takes me a long time to get used to people but Mencap, my teachers and my team mates helped me relax. It felt great to be amongst people and be doing something that would help so many more people with a learning disability like me. I am sure the video will really help raise awareness of how hard it is for people with a learning disability to find a job.

I am thrilled with how the video came out and what a success the launch event was; I think everyone had a great time. The project has really built my communication skills and confidence.
