MENCAP - Building Better Opportunities

Building Better Opportunities programme is co-funded by the Big Lottery and European Social Fund. The aim of the programme is to support young people age 24+ into meaningful activity and employment.

Through a sub-contract with the lead partner for the programme, Humber Learning Consortium, Mencap work specifically with people with a learning disability in  Hull and Scunthorpe.

We offer a personalised programme of support that tailors provision to develop all the skills needed for the workplace. CV writing, interview practice, with an emphasis on providing opportunities for access to work experience/ trials to enhance progression

We can help people identify job opportunities, review a person’s training needs and provide on-the-job support where appropriate and work within a wide and varied  partnership framework to include other supporting providers and employers to ensure maximum opportunity.

Whatever it takes – we’ll do everything we can to get more people with a learning disability in rewarding jobs.

Connecting Choices

The Connecting Choices project, starting in July 2017, aims to provide holistic support for unemployed and economically inactive people aged 19 and over who are most at risk of social exclusion to help them progress into training, education, volunteering and work.

We work alongside 3SC to provide employment opportunities to people with a learning disability who are also visually impaired. We work collaboratively with 3SC and local JCP’s to ensure that our clients receive a tailored programme that provides them with all the skills they require to find and sustain paid employment.
