Support: help when needed

Support built around your needs

Support services to help people with a learning disability to make choices and live their lives the way they want.

Choose how to live your life. Mencap's support services are focused on helping people with a learning disability achieve the life they want, through people supporting them in the right way.

Building support around each person. At Mencap we recognise everyone is an individual, with needs and wishes that are different to the next person. We are able to provide care and support in a flexible way, from just a few hours each week to 24 hour support each day.

Personal support

Mencap’s personal support service is focussed on each person’s living requirements. This includes support to live independently, shared living with friends, overnight support and emergency support. This service can also support parents and carers.

Supported living

Mencap’s supported living service provides support for people to live in their own home and take control of the way they live. It is an alternative to living in a shared residential care service or at home with their family and is often the most appropriate support for people wanting to live a more independent lifestyle.

Family support

Mencap's family support service provides flexible support to adults and children with a learning disability and their families and carers, when it is needed.

Specialist services

Mencap's specialist care offers an ideal service for people with more complex needs, including people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

Respite

Mencap's respite care is designed to provide a break for carers and families as well as offering an important opportunity for people with a learning disability to socialise with friends and learn new skills.

Residential care

Mencap’s residential care service provides support to people in a small shared living environment. Many of the people who use our registered care service do so as a stepping stone to supported living in the future.
