Housing: a place to call home
Find the home you want
Individually tailored. Mencap provides housing support that meets people's specific needs. We recognise that while some people like to live on their own, others like to live with other people. With this in mind we help people to rent or buy their own homes. Should a person wish to live in a shared living arrangement, we will also ensure their needs, and the needs of anybody else we may support are catered for individually.
Finding the right housing solution. Golden Lane Housing (GLH) works in partnership with Mencap. GLH was established as an independent charity by Mencap in 1998 to help tackle any problems people with a learning disability face when it comes to being able to make choices about where, with who, and how they wish to live their lives.
GLH provides high quality homes that suit the needs of individuals with a learning disability, from individual and shared housing to supported living and respite accommodation.
‘Great Tenants’ is a service provided by Golden Lane Housing (GLH) that enables a person with a learning disability to rent a home that suits their individual requirements in a location of their choice.
Golden Lane Housing, as a supported landlord, works to ensure that everyone moves into a suitable home and receives the right support for his or her needs.
'Ordinary Houses Ordinary Streets' is a scheme where Golden Lane Housing (GLH) purchase properties from the open market in specific locations, and adapt them to meet the needs of identified individuals with a learning disability. The house is then rented to the person or group of people.
Golden Lane Housing (GLH), in partnership with Triodos Bank, has launched a £10 million charity bond. The money raised will go to buying homes for people with a learning disability and is the UK’s largest ever charity bond issue of its kind.
Tenant participation forums are held every three to four months all over the country. They enable Golden Lane Housing tenants to get together to talk about services and how to improve them and other topics that are important to them.
‘My Place’ is a specific scheme where someone with a learning disability can enter into a shared ownership arrangement to purchase a property in partnership with Golden Lane Housing (GLH).
In order to support individuals, Golden Lane Housing works in partnership with many different people and organisations.
