Advocacy: making choices
Speak about things that matter
Support to speak out and be heard. Mencap knows the importance of having your voice heard. That’s why we support people to develop the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to speak out about the things that matter to them. That might be to ask specific questions or to secure their rights and entitlements.
Mencap’s Advocacy groups encourage people with a learning disability to use their voice. David, Zoe, Ann and Ranjeet talk about why it’s important for them to have their say.
Mencap’s Empower Me services provide personalised advocacy support for people with a learning disability. Empower Me enables them to speak up about things that are important to them and make informed choices.
Without advocacy I don’t know what I would have done, it has given me the confidence to speak up, understand my rights and help others.
