About Mencap Cymru

Mencap Cymru is the voice of learning disability in Wales. Mencap Cymru has over 1,500 individual members and a growing number of schools and community groups.

We provide advice and information to anyone who is affected by learning disability. We have a network of regional officers across Wales who provide face-to-face support to individuals and families, and develop links with other local organisations.

We operate the free Wales Learning Disability Helpline, which offers impartial information and advice - 0808 808 1111.

We want people with a learning disability in Wales to be valued equally, listened to and included. Our projects help people to get their voices heard, become more independent, and have a say in the future of their communities.

Mencap Cymru services provide support so that people with a learning disability can live as independently as they want. We help people with a learning disability to find and train from employment, and provide domicilary services and short-term breaks.

We lead on debate and innovation in Wales, and work closely with the Welsh Government, National Assembly for Wales and local authorities, and campaign to help them create policies which will increase the status of people with a learning disability.

We develop partnerships with other organisations and public bodies, such as schools, police forces and hospitals to help them better understand people with a learning disability, and provide them with awareness training.
