My name is Richard Lawrence. I am a Projects Support Assistant at Mencap. I have a learning disability. For Hate Crime Awareness Week (12-19 October 2013), I have written a blog about learning disability hate crime, my personal story and how I still feel emotionally affected.

Whenever I talk to someone outside of Mencap about hate crime against people with a learning disability, the usual reaction is shock and horror - they can't believe that it goes on at all, let alone that it's as common as it is.
