Take the Spellathon challange at your school

Spellathon

Our spelling competition is a great way to improve spelling at your school, while raising money for people with a learning disability, their families and carers.

This year's Spellathon is bigger and better than ever! We've launched a newly designed pack with all the resources you need for a successful Spellathon.

The 2010 pack includes:

  • six weeks of work for each year group
  • carefully planned, differentiated lessons to develop spelling strategies, encompassing the National Literacy Strategy
  • ideas for PSHCE activities covering the main principles of SEAL
  • a school assembly plan for the start of the programme
  • differentiated lists of spelling for each year group linked to the National Literacy Strategy

Students are asked to learn words from spelling lists compiled by the Oxford University Press, and to raise as much as they can in order to win a prize.

Schools can benefit by claiming back 25% of money fundraised. Plus, there's also the opportunity to win a fantastic interactive whiteboard from the Specialist Computer Centre, amongst other prizes!
